It's so funny because as a long time follower, while you were feeling all those feelings, I was imagining being as cool as you! It's been very interesting to continue to watch your progress as I have grown up too. Seeing all of your beautiful sewing projects is inspiring (even if I just have a skirt that's been waiting to be hemmed for 6 months that will totally totally be done some day)

Thank you so much! When I was younger and much more insecure, I focused on the negative comments instead of the overwhelming positive ones. Now that I'm older, I understand that I won't be for everyone and that's okay -- but it's unfair to me AND my readers to only absorb and believe the bad.

Also, I have a habit of piling up things to mend and getting to them a year late, so I can relate. I usually just do the whole pile all at once, and then let the pile stack up again. It's not as fun as making something from scratch, so it always gets put off!

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading this. I have followed Keiko for so many years and admired her creativity and talent—definitely also wanted to be that cool! Still rings true today :)

I am glad you have rediscovered something that brings you joy. I think I started following you in the beginning of the middle. I remember mentions of Postlapsaria but the site being under construction. I have always found your art, style and writing inspiring and encouraging. I love your long posts! ❤️ write as many words as you like.

So sad to hear baby keiko felt like she had to give up a passion of hers to quit feeling like an imposter. We all feel the, “are I good enough” feeling all the time, even professional athletes are constantly feeling that. I’m so glad that you brought your machines back out. I’ve truly been enjoying seeing your projects and being inspired by your talent! I’m working at honing my own craft and teaching myself how to sew because I wanted the challenge of not being good at something on the onset. Keep showing us your work, we love it!

Loved hearing about your great grandparents and about your love for sewing. I have always been inspired by what you make and even though I am not a seamstress myself, I really enjoy seeing the things you have made over the years. I am glad that you came back to it and didn’t let the naysayer keep you from doing something you love.

I still have a top I bought from you! I loved it. Must of been 2008ish. I remember loving everything you made and wanting to be able to make my own clothes. I am still very talentless in the department but at least I can see your wonderful creations again

I just briefly did the math - I am following you since 2009/2010. I missed the Postlapsaria heyday but I remember loving your handmade pieces so much. As a nostalgia lover myself I love all those trips down memory lane. To trip over a photo that was featured on your blog like aaages ago and still remembering it is precious and also wild. Thank you for sharing your struggles as well as your highlights. This is a great place to hang around! :)

I'm so glad you enjoy it; I'm already enjoying it a lot. I love love love making more "fantasy" and curated content, but I do always miss having a place that I can treat more like a diary. I still do that in my blog sometimes, but it's so largely SEO driven these days that I try to be more intentional in what I post there. This feels more ephemeral and micro, which I like.

I remember Postlapsaria vividly and absolutely thought it was the cats pajamas! There is one in particular, a style with ships on it (in a dark mustardy yellow) that I remember wanting TERRIBLY. I'm so sorry that someone got into your head but am SO glad you got back into it :)

Aw thank you so much. I really enjoyed that time in my life. I do remember having to always wear a back brace from all the cutting and sewing around the clock, but I also remember it being one of the most exciting and unexpected times of my life. While in some ways I wish I could go back in time and give myself a pep talk, I also am happy things went in this direction. I couldn't scale my production without entirely abandoning its ethos, and I think that would have made me miserable.
